FAQ
A-1 Fingerprinting and Drug Screening performs both Live Scan and hard card fingerprinting. Here are some of your most commonly asked questions and answers for you.
What is an ORI number?
This number is provided by FDLE. It identifies the agency requesting the criminal history check and for what purpose.
What is an OCA number?
The OCA (Controlling Agency Identifier) is a number provided by DCF. It identifies the provider requesting the background check.
The OCA number is a nine-character number beginning with your two-digit Circuit Number, followed by your OCA, and ending with the letter “z”.
What is Live Scan Fingerprinting?
Live Scan is unlike traditional fingerprinting, where ink is applied to each of your fingers then “rolled” across a fingerprint card to obtain your prints. With Live Scan electronic fingerprinting, there is no ink or card. Your fingerprints are “rolled” across a glass plate and scanned. This method is faster and cleaner than the traditional ink method. Electronic fingerprinting reduces the likelihood of illegible fingerprints and reduces the overall application processing time.
How long does a fingerprint scan take?
The typical time to have your fingerprints scanned is 5-10 minutes.
May I use my recent fingerprinting results to apply for a different professional license?
Per FBI regulation, your prints cannot be shared between agencies. You are required to have separate prints taken for each license for which you apply, using the correct ORI.
Do I get to see the results?
Unfortunately, no. Only the requesting agency has access to your results.
